In September 2013 I was 2 weeks in Italy at the Amalfi Coast. I was staying at San Cataldo, which is a very remarkable place. It is a 1000 years old benedictine monastery which a hundred years ago was converted into a refuge mainly for artists and scientist. So you meet many interesting people there.
They have their own wine yard which gives enough wine to last the whole year, so with the meals there are wine ad libitum. Today the monastery is fully modernized (but no TV) and very very beautiful both inside and outside.
Amalfi itself is beautiful but full tourists. However the whole coast area is littered with picturesque small villages. To many of them you cannot drive, but have to walk.
